Our overall mission is to fulfill the promise of the Human Genome Project by carrying out two major goals: Identify and understand the genetic basis of major complex diseases, with an emphasis on autoimmune diseases and neuropsychiatric traits and disorders Facilitate the translation of these discoveries into new diagnostics and therapeutics by performing basic research on disease mechanisms. Over the last decade, we have created a fully integrated research program to achieve these goals, including - Implementation of population genetic studies, including leadership of several large national consortia - Unique robotic biorepository facilities and tissue banking programs which serve as a regional resource for population genetic studies - State-of-the art “functional genomics” and high-throughput genetic mapping capabilities - Integrated data management - Expertise in statistical genetics - Focused research programs on the molecular and cell biology of disease mechanisms, based on genetic discoveries made in the Center Links to major research initiatives led by the Center:
