Our overall mission is to fulfill the promise of the Human Genome Project by carrying out two major goals:
  • Identify and understand the genetic basis of major complex diseases, with an emphasis on autoimmune diseases and neuropsychiatric traits and disorders
  • Facilitate the translation of these discoveries into new diagnostics and therapeutics by performing basic research on disease mechanisms.
  • Over the last decade, we have created a fully integrated research program to achieve these goals, including

    - Implementation of population genetic studies, including leadership of several large national consortia
    - Unique robotic biorepository facilities and tissue banking programs which serve as a regional resource for population genetic studies
    - State-of-the art “functional genomics” and high-throughput genetic mapping capabilities
    - Integrated data management
    - Expertise in statistical genetics
    - Focused research programs on the molecular and cell biology of disease mechanisms, based on genetic discoveries made in the Center
